Description: The monoclonal antibody 5UCLNT3 recognizes mouse and rat Trefoil Factor 3. Trefoil Factor 3 (TFF3) is a member of the trefoil family, which are characterized by having at least one copy of the trefoil motif, a 40-amino acid domain that contains three conserved disulfides. TFF3 is a small peptide hormone secreted by mucus-producing cells and by epithelial cells of multiple tissues, including the gastrointestinal tract, kidney, and breast. TFF3 plays an essential role in both mucosal surface maintenance and restitution. TFF3 facilitates restoration of the intestinal epithelium as a protective barrier against injury by inhibiting apoptosis and promoting survival and migration of epithelial cells. TFF3 also plays a role in inducing airway epithelial ciliated cell differentiation. Levels of TFF3 change after renal injury and urinary levels can be used as a biomarker for kidney tubular injury. TFF3 may also play a role in breast tumor progression and tumor cell dissemination.
Applications Reported: This 5UCLNT3 antibody has been reported for use in microscopy and immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections.
Applications Tested: This 5UCLNT3 antibody has been tested by immunohistochemistry of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded rat tissue using low pH antigen retrieval at less than or equal to 10 µg/mL. It is recommended that the antibody be carefully titrated for optimal performance in the assay of interest.

Trefoil peptides are protease resistant molecules secreted throughout the gut that play a role in mucosal healing. Trefoil peptides contain three intrachain disulfide bonds, forming the trefoil motif, or P-domain and clustered in human chromosome 21q22.3. Trefoil Factor 3 (TFF3) is one of three trefoil peptides secreted by epithelial cells that line mucus membranes in the large and small intestines and lower respiratory tract. TFF3 is mainly active as a disulfide-linked homodimer and may have a role in promoting cell migration in healing processes. It is involved in the maintenance and repair of the intestinal mucosa.
