Target Information

The ALOX12 gene encodes the enzyme arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase, a member of the lipoxygenase family that metabolizes arachidonic acid into bioactive lipid mediators. ALOX12 catalyzes the formation of 12-hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-HPETE), which is further reduced to 12-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-HETE). These products are involved in various biological processes, including inflammation, cellular signaling, and blood platelet function. ALOX12 plays a significant role in pathophysiological conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and inflammatory disorders. Dysregulation or altered expression of ALOX12 has been implicated in tumorigenesis and metastasis, where its metabolites influence cell proliferation, migration, and survival.
