Western blot analysis of Annexin VIII in, Lane 1: human Hela whole cell lysates, Lane 2: human placenta tissue lysates, Lane 3: human A549 whole cell lysates. Electrophoresis was performed on a 5-20% SDS-PAGE gel at 70V (Stacking gel) / 90V (Resolving gel) for 2-3 hours. The sample well of each lane was loaded with 30 µg of sample under reducing conditions. After Electrophoresis, proteins were transferred to a nitrocellulose membrane at 150 mA for 50-90 minutes. This gene encodes a member of the annexin family of evolutionarily conserved Ca2+ and phospholipid binding proteins. The encoded protein may function as an an anticoagulant that indirectly inhibits the thromboplastin-specific complex. Overexpression of this gene has been associated with acute myelocytic leukemia. A highly similar duplicated copy of this gene is found in close proximity on the long arm of chromosome 10.
