Description: CD40 belongs to the TNF receptor superfamily and is a biochemical marker for the identification of activated platelets of patients with cardiovascular diseases (angina pectoris, infarction, stroke etc.)
A key role of CD40/CD40ligand interactions in immune activation, particularly in T-cell dependent B cell responses is anticipated. CD40 Ligand is expressed on the surface of activated CD4+ T cells, basophils, and mast cells. Binding of CD40L to its receptor, CD40, on the surface of B cells stimulates B-cell proliferation, adhesion and differentiation. BMS172 specifically reacts with mouse CD40 ligand (gp39).
Applications Tested: in vivo studies.
CD40 Ligand (CD40-L), or CD154, is a membrane glycoprotein and differentiation antigen expressed on the surface of T cells. The CD40 Ligand stimulates B cell proliferation and secretion of all immunoglobulin isotypes in the presence of cytokines. CD40 Ligand has been shown to induce cytokine production and tumoricidal activity in peripheral blood monocytes. It also co-stimulates proliferation of activated T cells and this is accompanied by the production of IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, and IL-2.
