Life Technologies™ animal health products have been at the forefront of recent advances in production animal diagnostics, and supply some of the leading modern diagnostic tools to veterinary laboratories around the world.
In keeping with our continued development of next-generation molecular tools, we offer innovative primers and probes for porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDv) testing that are manufactured under ISO 9001 QMS conditions, providing confidence in the supply and quality of our PEDv reagents.
Regularly testing your animals can help detect PEDv early, and help prevent outbreaks and loss of animals.
PEDv is most prevalent in China and European countries and was diagnosed for the first time in the United States in April, 2013. The disease occurs only in pigs and is caused by a coronavirus that is similar to that which causes transmissible gastroenteritis (TGE).
The virus damages the villi in the gut of the animal, producing acute diarrhea outbreaks that can be quickly transmitted across pigs of all ages. In susceptible populations, acute outbreaks of diarrhea may affect up to 100% of sows, and can result in two clinical scenarios: PED Type I, which affects growing pigs, and PED Type II, which affects pigs of all ages. Diarrhea may persist for up to 14 days and may contribute to mortality rates of 60–100% in suckling pigs.
PEDv may create substantial economic loss because the disease is highly infectious and can contribute to significant death and production loss in pigs. Further monetary loss may also occur as a result of treatment and biosecurity costs. Consumers may ultimately incur economic burden in the form of higher pork product prices.
Extensive DNA/RNA experience, bioinformatics capabilities, and ISO 9001 QMS manufacturing conditions help provide confidence in the consistency and quality of our PEDv reagents.
Our custom PEDv reagents are easy-to-use and enable monitoring of nucleic acid isolation efficacy as well as PCR inhibition with Xeno™ RNA internal positive control.
Our reagents are used in other animal health labs as part of their in-house validated assays, and offer a rapid, cost-effective method for target sequence amplification.
Our vision is to provide comprehensive solutions to help diagnose farm animal health issues more quickly and accurately than ever before—and thereby enhance animal health and productivity. To learn more about our PEDv Custom Reagents please download our product flyer.
