PEP-167 is a 17 amino acid synthetic peptide whose sequence is derived from human BACE2 protein. The sequence of this peptide is (amino to carboxy terminus): C-P (503)-E-V-V-N-D-E-S-S-L-V-R-H-R-W-K (518)
This peptide may be used for neutralization and control experiments with the polyclonal antibody that reacts with this product and human BACE2, catalog # PA1-754. Using a solution of peptide of equal volume and concentration to the corresponding antibody will yield a large molar excess of peptide (~70-fold) for competitive inhibition of antibody-protein binding reactions.

BACE2 or Beta Secretase 2 is responsible for the proteolytic processing of the amyloid precursor protein (APP). BACE2 cleaves APP between residues 690 and 691. This cleavage leads to the generation and extracellular release of beta-cleaved soluble APP. BACE2 is also know to cleave APP between residues 671 and 672. Accumulation of APP is a signature of Alzheimer disease and frequent complication of adult Down syndrome patients.
